Hewlett-Packard to Agilent Transition Notes
The IO Libraries product, beginning with revision J.01.00, has been re-branded from Hewlett-Packard to Agilent Technologies.
A
number of changes have been made to the IO hardware, software and documentation
to reflect this change:
- The name of the HP I/O Libraries Control has been changed to Agilent IO Libraries
Control.
- The name of the IO Libraries folder under Start | Programs has changed from 'HP I_O
Libraries' to 'Agilent IO Libraries'.
- The 'HP' prefix to the shortcut names in the 'Agilent IO Libraries' folder has been
removed.
- The icons used for various IO Libraries components no longer
use an HP logo.
- When using the 'Add / Remove Programs' applet in the control panel, 'HP I/O Libraries'
has been replaced by 'Agilent IO Libraries'.
- Documentation and packaging for our IO products are in the process of being updated
from HP to Agilent. Until this process is complete, you may find references to HP
rather than Agilent.
- References to HP-IB have been changed to GPIB throughout the product.
Note,
however, that the default interface names assigned by IO Config to Agilent GPIB
interfaces have not changed (e.g. hpib7). These defaults were not changed to
preserve backwards compatibility with existing applications which might rely on those
names.
- VISA attribute notes:
- VI_ATTR_RSRC_MANF_ID has not changed, it still returns 0xfff. This VXI
manufacturer ID is now owned by Agilent.
- VI_ATTR_RSRC_MANF_NAME now returns 'Agilent Technologies' rather than 'Hewlett-Packard'.
- Windows registry notes:
- New installations of the Agilent IO Libraries will create and use the registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Agilent\IO Libraries.
- Earlier versions of the HP I/O Libraries used the registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hewlett-Packard\SICL.
- To maintain backwards compatibility, if there is no existing
Agilent\IO Libraries registry
path and there is an existing Hewlett-Packard\SICL path, the Agilent IO Libraries will
continue to use the Hewlett-Packard\SICL path.
- For new installations (where neither the Hewlett-Packard nor the Agilent path exist),
you can force Agilent IO Libraries setup to create and use the Hewlett-Packard\SICL path
by running the setup program with the parameter 'usehpreg'. (e.g. 'setup usehpreg').
Note: setup will not allow you to install using the Hewlett-Packard path if an
Agilent path exists.
- If both an Agilent\IO Libraries and a Hewlett-Packard\SICL path exist,
IO Libraries will use
the Agilent path and ignore the Hewlett-Packard path. IO Libraries setup will not
normally create a second registry path if one already exists, however, if you install an
older version of the IO Libraries over a version which has created an Agilent path or
another application has created the Hewlett-Packard path, it is then possible for both
paths to exist.
- If you want to change the registry path used by the IO Libraries, you must first
uninstall the currently installed IO Libraries to remove the old path and then re-install
the IO libraries using the appropriate setup option to use the new path.
- You can determine which registry path the IO Libraries are using by clicking on the
Agilent IO Control and selecting the 'View Documentation | Installation
Information' menu.
